People usually only go there out of convenience, but this party looked\u00a0quite fun from the outside.<\/p>\n<p>The crowd outside was motioning towards me. They were all in suits and colorful\u00a0gowns.\u00a0<em>Come inside!\u00a0<\/em>They said.\u00a0<em>But I&#8217;m all sweaty!\u00a0<\/em>I said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Doesn&#8217;t matter. Come inside.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sweet! A spontaneous party invitation. I&#8217;m confused and excited at the same time.\u00a0But as I come closer, it becomes\u00a0clear\u00a0that everybody around me has baby faces, despite being as tall as I am. Turns out it&#8217;s a high school prom.<\/p>\n<p>Technically we&#8217;re only a couple of years apart, but this isn&#8217;t the kind of party I&#8217;m trying\u00a0to crash.<\/p>\n<p>~<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0want to leave, but they insist that I don&#8217;t go\u00a0until I see somebody. The crowd gives way until there&#8217;s only one other person in front of me &#8212; the only other Asian-looking guy in the party.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kijk! Jouw broer!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He took one look at me and turned away. \u00a0He looked annoyed and ashamed.<\/p>\n<p>So was I.
